The Heat is on...

So how are you supposed to look cool on camera when it's so darn hot?  It starts with your clothes. When it's hot out and you sweat, your clothes wrinkle more so make sure you are starting out right from the cleaners!  Guys make sure you are getting your shirts back with a minimum of a medium starch and don't forget to wear a light cotton undershirt to help absorb perspiration.  If you will be working in the field or on location, bring an extra undershirt and button down in the event it's just too hot to stay fresh.  Ladies, have sizing added to your blouses for that brand new off the hanger look.  Your garments will keep their shape better as the day goes on.

Facing the heat?  When your face perspires, don't wipe it off!  Take a cloth and BLOT it off.  This will save your makeup and is better for your skin.  If you are on location and it's really hot, you can use Burt's Bees Face Mist (google it for locations to buy) to cool down the surface of your skin to help slow down perspiration.  Blot your skin of any oil and moisture; apply Colour Basis Oil Control Matting Powder with Cotton Tail Brush and then hold mist 6-8" away from skin and spray, let mist dry and you are ready to go on the air looking and feeling refreshed!

For Men
Only

Your freckle or mole may be than skin deep…  Men are at much higher risk for skin cancer.  It is reported that men are twice as likely to develop basal-cell or squamous-cell cancer and are significantly more prone to melanoma than women.  Studies show men have a one-in 58 chance of developing melanoma compared with one-in 82 chance for women.  During these hot months and lots of time outdoors, it's important to remember the dangers of sun exposure.  Wearing a minimum SPF15 sunscreen daily on your face, neck, ears and hands is crucial even if you are just going to work.  You may not realize the amount of sun exposure you get just commuting to and from work.  We mustn't forget those hours on the course or working shirtless in the yard where all exposed skin needs to be protected!  The most common place for skin cancer to occur in men is the upper back and can also occur in the scalp.  These areas are almost impossible for you to examine yourself.

If you have not had your doctor check you for moles, freckles and the like, PLEASE make an appointment.  It could save your life.  Where's the appearance tip?  The sunscreen will keep you looking younger for years to come as it protects against photo-aging caused by the sun and is the most difficult damage to the skin to correct.  But you look so much better on camera with a tan?  Buy it in a bottle or a powder bronzer!

This Way, Ladies

Summer brightness of the sun can lead to major dullness in your hair!  Keep your hair in good condition during these hot summer months by using a quality shampoo and conditioner as well as having frequent trims to keep those split ends away.  If you are going to be in the water and your hair is medium to long, put conditioner in your dry hair and wear up in a clip or twist.  The conditioner will help to prevent damage from chlorine or salt by coating and protecting your hair shafts.  It's always a good idea to wear a hat to protect your colour as well!  Treat yourself to a semi-permanent gloss at your salon. It is a great way to add shine and enhance your colour without damage or needing a touch up later on!
